Transmitter Site Perks
Engineers have some perks in their lives. One of those is transmitter site visits. Not all visits are fun. Most are routine. Some are simple repairs.
Today I arrived at a site, and pulled up to the gate. Opened the truck door when a friend came by.
This made my day. Hope yours is going well!
Happy Lunar New Year!
Wishing those a happy and prosperous new year. This is the Year of the OX!!!
(Doh! I put goat by mistake in original post.)
Let’s hope the attack on Covid-19 continues to progress and we can get things back to semi-normal sooner than later.
Cheers!
AoIP: Dante by Audinate
Love it. Simple. Just build your network properly.
We are what I would say is 3/4 the way through getting these facilities in a psuedo-complete state. The one thing that I think has been the most reliable is our audio network, Dante AoIP. Simple, efficient, and easy to maintain. I need to do a count, but I am sure I have over 50 devices on this network/system. I know I am not done.
The devices range for KDL modules in my SAS 32KD frame, to SAS Rio Bravos, and a multitude of Dante Virtual Sound Cards (DVS). Using the Dante Controller application makes it very easy to setup, configure, and maintain. After putting all this fun stuff together I decided to visit the Audinate site and check with their online information. I decided to go through the steps and check out the training. I did all this just this past weekend. The end result: I have a Dante Level 2 certification.
I hope to catch up and spend time on some details on why I chose Dante, and how I implemented it. For now, know that I am a pleased Audinate Dante customer.
Blackberry Storm Oddity
I have the Storm. Hey, I don’t pay for it. Anyways, believe it or not, I actually like it. I do have some issues with it, but overall those are minor and can be overcome.
Recently I found out from an “insider” that if you fold a business card in half, place it between the battery and the cover, the keyboard response improves. I think it is a farce, so I try it. THE KEYBOARD WORKS GREAT! The one hangup I have about the device and all it took was a business card!
OK, well, the rotating device screen/gyro is not as smooth as an iphone, but it works. Of all the so-so reviews to bad reviews, I think the device it better than that, but there is room for improvements. At least it’s not like the iPhone which tells your friends and non-friends where you are at all times. Who is big brother now? Apple.
